School of Information Technology KMITL students join forces with an interdisciplinary team to win the HacKaTech 2026 championship

Undergraduate students from the School of Information Technology, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) collaborated with students from different universities to form a team producing outstanding work by becoming one of the 3 winning teamsThe champion award along with trophies and certificates from the HacKaTech Competition: Battle to Transform Bangkok’s Future (Bangkok Governor 69th Chair Battle) in the PEOPLE Track, which is a national level Hackathon competition organized by CIA CreativeLab, Resilience Collective Thailand (In collaboration with MIT Urban Risk Lab, Massachusetts Institute of Technology), NEXTOPIA and QBraid on 18–20 June 2026 at Community Center 5A, NEXTOPIA, Siam Paragon, Bangkok, Thailand

HacKaTech competition is a platform offering youths aged 15–24 nationwide the opportunity to present ideas and develop technology to solve capital city problems, under the theme "Tech for Bangkok’s Future and its People." The competition consists of a 2-day Hackathon and a 1-day Debate. Participants must collaboratively design and develop a Tech Prototype that can be further applied in real situations, without formulating policies or supporting any political parties specifically.

The student team named "Seriously Seven!" presented the CareKan project, a comprehensive Web Application for booking queues at public hospitals in Bangkok. Users can search for hospitals under Bangkok jurisdiction, book queues, select appointment dates and times in real-time, and track appointment status and queue numbers via a single system. It is designed to meet government website standards, support UC Universal Coverage Scheme rights, Social Security Office rights, and civil servant rights. It also includes a senior-friendly mode that adjusts font sizes and buttons for usability, plus a QR Code system to confirm bookings upon service at the hospital, helping to reduce service steps, waiting times, and overcrowding in public hospitals in Bangkok.

This work was developed using React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Google Maps API, and Open Government Data within the 2-day competition period (18–19 June 2026).

This success reflects the potential of students to integrate knowledge in information technology with interdisciplinary teamwork to develop solutions that effectively address urban problems and enhance citizens’ quality of life in a tangible way.
