School of Information Technology, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, congratulates Team Vientiane‚ I found u, 3rd-year undergraduate students from the Data Science and Business Analytics (DSBA) program, for being selected to participate in the “Smogathon Laos 2026” competition, traveling to present their project in Vientiane, Lao People's Democratic Republic, and achieving success by winning the Second Runner-Up Award along with a prize of 3,000 USD.
🌏 Innovation Platform to Address Transboundary Haze Issues
Smogathon Laos 2026 is a platform promoting innovation and technology development to tackle transboundary air pollution and haze problems, organized by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) under the SERVIR Southeast Asia project, in collaboration with government agencies and partners from Thailand and the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
This platform offers young people the opportunity to jointly develop ideas and innovate by applying environmental data, geospatial technology, and data from various sources to analyze and monitor air pollution situations. It also involves developing prototype technologies to support surveillance, situation assessment, and planning to address haze issues, as well as fostering cooperation in solving regional environmental problems.
💡 Launching AI Platform Project Turning Data into Decision Support Tools
The project presented by Team Vientiane‚ I found u is “Kwan-Loong,” a decision support platform for wildfire and haze management developed to collect, analyze, and process data related to wildfire and environmental situations from various sources such as
• Hotspot Data
• Weather Conditions Data
• Wind Direction and Speed
• Forestry and Fuel Data
By applying knowledge from Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to analyze data, the platform transforms information from diverse sources into actionable intelligence that supports situation assessment, surveillance, and effective planning for wildfire and haze prevention and response.
This innovation reflects the potential of applying data science and AI technology to solve real environmental issues, especially wildfire and haze problems affecting the quality of life of people in Southeast Asia.
